Manaus (AM) – With the presence of almost 3 thousand students from the Municipal Department of Education (Semed), the mayor of Manaus, David Almeida, held, this Thursday (21), the opening of the 1st edition of the Semed Municipal Inclusive Games (Jims) , at the Amadeu Teixeira multi-sports arena, located on Avenida Constantino Nery, Flores neighborhood, in the Central-South Zone.
“We want to add education to sport, which are two fundamental inclusion tools, and the city hall fulfills its purpose. We will further expand the union of these areas, so that we can provide these children and their families with a better quality of life”,
guaranteed the mayor.
The objective is to promote access to sports and leisure, with a formative, participatory, educational and inclusive nature, through parasports activities aimed at all students, the target audience for special education and other students in the municipal public network of Manaus, with a view to ensuring the constitutional right provided for in article 217 of the 1988 Federal Constitution.
Semed’s secretary, Dulce Almeida, reinforced care and respect for people with disabilities. “We need to join hands in this issue which is not just pedagogical, it is a health, emotional, social issue, which we work on. We need to expand our municipal special education centers, so that, in every part of the city, we can have one, to provide therapies to children in each of our schools”, stated the secretary.
The program continues until the 23rd, and includes parasports recreation activities aimed at early childhood education students, as well as athletics, Sitting Volleyball, Table Tennis, Goalball, Badminton, Adapted Football, Weightlifting, Fighting, Basketball in a wheelchair and Target Shooting, which will also be held at the Amadeu Teixeira multi-sports arena.
The closing ceremony will be held at the Faculty of Physical Education and Physiotherapy, at the Federal University of Amazonas (Feff/Ufam), and will be aimed at students of elementary school 2 and Youth and Adult Education (EJA), previously registered to participate in the event .
Inclusion in schools
To work on inclusion throughout the education network, Semed meets the most varied disabilities with included students such as: intellectual, sensory-visual, hearing and deaf blindness, physical, autism spectrum disorder, multiple disabilities, high abilities and giftedness, which It ranges from nursery school to EJA, as highlighted by the head of the department.
“We have a lot of work to do within Semed, but we need more investment and more resources, and we are already looking for that. We want to implement ecotherapy, because it is a determination from Mayor David, who has this sensitive look at our students”,
