Manaus (AM) – The mayor of Manaus, David Almeida, alongside the vice-mayor and head of the Civil House, Marcos Rotta, signed, on the morning of this Wednesday (28), the decree that establishes an emergency situation in the municipality due to the low water of the Negro River, which has been causing damage to the riverside and rural areas of the city. The event took place at the City Cooperation Center (CCC), located in the Center-South Zone of the capital.

This morning, the Negro River reached a level of 16.11 meters. Due to the rapid and high pace of the ebb, the head of the municipal Executive highlighted the importance of the decree, as it will facilitate the carrying out of actions that seek to minimize damage to the population, who have been suffering most from this situation.

“We already have actions planned. For example, tomorrow, we will deliver 60 boats with engines to the affected communities. Our estimate is to drill around 30 artesian stations to bring water and for this structure to remain permanent in these communities, regardless of the drought we have here in our city. We will also take food, as this is another great need, including the food that we will allocate tomorrow and in the coming days are the food that we collected at #SouManaus”,

emphasized Almeida.

The decree will be published on Thursday night, in the Official Gazette of the Municipality (DOM), and will be valid for 90 days.

For the vice-mayor and chief municipal secretary of the Civil House, Marcos Rotta, the decree represents the care that Manaus City Hall has for nature and the population.

“The emergency decree is another of the actions that the city hall is taking to help the population get through this period of drought that is affecting the city of Manaus. We are working intensely to reduce the impacts of drought, both for nature and for our people”,
