Datafolha: Lula voters see expectations frustrated – 01/04/2023 – Power

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) has done so far for the country less than expected in the opinion of 1 in 4 people who claim to have voted for him, according to a Datafolha poll. The slice of those who see frustrated expectations is 25% among PT voters and 51% in the general average.

Most of those who voted for Lula, however, indicate that they are satisfied with the first three months of his government.

For 37%, the representative did what was expected of him – a rate higher than the general result, of 25%, measured in a universe that includes voters of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and those who voted blank, canceled or did not attend to the polls in the second round of elections.

A portion of 34% of Lula’s voters say that he has done more than was expected so far, a more positive assessment than the average, which is 18%.

The data segmentation between supporters of the two politicians who polarize the national scene shows those who pressed 13 in the ballot box being more condescending with the government. Those who preferred the candidate number 22 naturally exhibit greater pessimism.

Lula and Bolsonaro starred in the fiercest dispute since redemocratization, with the petista winning with the tightest margin of votes in history, just 1.8 percentage points ahead of his rival.

The Datafolha survey heard 2,028 people over 16 years old, in 126 municipalities across the country, between Wednesday (29) and Thursday (30).

The general margin of error is plus or minus two percentage points. In declared vote clippings, the margins are 3 points among Lula voters and 4 points among Bolsonaro voters.

According to the survey, the Lula government is considered excellent or good by 38% of Brazilians, a percentage that rises to 71% among those who voted for the PT leader and drops to 7% among those who preferred the candidate for re-election.

Management is bad or terrible for 29% of respondents in general, an assessment shared by 3% of Lula voters and 60% of Bolsonaro voters. The regular classification indices are more even: 30% on average, 24% among lulistas and 30% among bolsonaristas.

Although optimism stands out among the opinions of the Lula supporters, survey numbers allow us to conclude that not everything coming from the president has pleased the group.

A yellow signal issued by those who supported him appears in the question about Lula’s attitudes. For 23% of them, the representative behaves like a President of the Republic most of the time, but sometimes not. On average, 24% think so. In the Bolsonarist electorate, it is 20%.

Most of the PT’s voters (66%), however, claim that he behaves in accordance with his position at all times. In the general universe of people heard, 37% think that too. Among those who voted for Bolsonaro, the index plummets to 10%.

And, while 18% of the total interviewees say that Lula does not have the posture of a president in any situation, only 4% of those who voted for him have the same perception. Among bolsonaristas, the rate goes to 35%.

The petista accumulates wear and tear due to gestures such as the inference that the discovery of a PCC plan to commit an attack against Senator Sergio Moro (União Brasil-PR) was a “frame” by the former judge of Operation Lava Jato. The day before, Lula said that, when imprisoned in Curitiba, he kept thinking of ways to “fuck” Moro’s life.

Another chapter of the survey exposes a certain degree of skepticism with the ability to keep promises.

Supporters of the PT, in the majority (54%), think that he will deliver everything he promised during the campaign (28% think so on average). But 42% of those who voted for him claim that Lula will honor only part of his promises (compared to 50% overall). Finally, 3% say that none will be fulfilled (21% in total).

Differences in perception are also clear at the intersection between the choice made in the election and the answers about the future of the government. Management, from now on, will be excellent or good in the assessment of 50% of respondents in general, 84% of Lula voters and 17% of Bolsonaro voters.

The prognosis is of a bad or terrible future for 21% of the population on average, for 2% of PT supporters and for 44% of supporters of his opponent in the 2022 race.

Lula voters converged with the general result in the discussion about the sectors in which the federal government did well, those in which it performed poorly and the issues it should prioritize.

Aid to indigenous peoples and the fight against hunger and extreme poverty are the two areas most cited positively. The most problematic are the economy, health and public safety. And the themes that demand priority are health, education, encouraging employment and combating poverty.
