A study by UN agencies that shows that food insecurity increased between 2020 and 2022 in Brazil, during the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), should curb the centrão offensive by the Ministry of Social Development, assess interlocutors from the portfolio and the PT.
This is because members of the group were responsible for the social area during the Bolsonaro administration. According to data from the study, in Brazil the prevalence of severe food insecurity increased from 1.9% between 2014 and 2016 to 9.9% between 2020 and 2022, which is equivalent to 21 million people in the situation.
In the evaluation of these interlocutors, the worsening of the situation reduces the chance of the center to promote a change in the ministry.
One of the parties that would be interested in the ministry is the Republicans, of the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas. In an interview with CNN this Tuesday (11), however, he said that the party would not have a nomination in the portfolio.
