Former Brazilian player Daniel Alves will be tried for the alleged rape of a young woman in a Barcelona nightclub, a crime for which he has been imprisoned since January.

There is still no date for this judgment “on the charges for which the process has always been open, it is a crime of sexual harassment,” sources at the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia told AFP.

According to the Spanish press, the former captain of the national team will be released from prison on Wednesday to go to the court in Barcelona, where the judge will notify him of her decision and impose a payment of 150,000 euros (R$ 784,000 in current quotation).

This amount will serve to cover any damages and losses, but not to be released on parole, said these sources.

Thus, the judge will conclude the investigation of the case and will open the criminal phase for Daniel, who, without aggravating circumstances, could be sentenced to up to 12 years in prison.

On January 2, a young woman reported that the player had raped her in the bathroom of a Barcelona nightclub at the end of December, after Daniel Alves had played in the World Cup in Qatar.

The athlete, who initially denied knowing the young woman, changed his version several times and ended up admitting that he had consensual relations with her, according to sources close to the case.

The woman’s version remained the same, and the magistrates at the Barcelona hearing rejected several appeals from the former right-back’s lawyers asking for his parole, claiming that there was a risk of fleeing to Brazil.

“Quiet Conscience”

In an interview published in June by the Catalan newspaper La Vanguardia, the first since he was arrested, Daniel Alves said he was innocent.

“I have a very clear conscience of what happened that morning in the bathroom of the Sutton nightclub. What happened and what didn’t happen. And what didn’t happen is that I forced this woman to do nothing we did”, explained the former player. from São Paulo to the newspaper in the prison where he is located, approximately 40 km from Barcelona.

“There is not a single mark on her body that explains the violence with which she said I moved her in the bathroom”, defends the player, who claims that the relations were, at all times, consented by the two.

In the extensive conversation, the right-back justified his various changes of versions about what happened for fear of losing his wife.

Player who won the most trophies in history, with 43 titles, Daniel Alves lived the most glorious phase of his career between 2008 and 2016, when alongside Messi, Xavi and Iniesta he won 23 trophies, but also defended teams like Juventus and Paris Saint- German.

The athlete’s last club in Brazil was São Paulo, where he played between 2019 and 2021.

In Qatar, he became the oldest Brazilian player to take the field in a World Cup.

His last team, the Pumas of Mexico, announced his departure in January, when the scandal broke.
