He has been imprisoned in Spain for a year and underwent a three-day trial, which ended on February 8, but is still awaiting sentencing.
On the last day of the trial, Alves denied the rape and stated that the relationship with the young woman who accuses him was consensual. He cried at the end of the testimony.
According to the newspaper L’Equipe, the player left the court handcuffed, with his gait almost staggering, his face closed and his gaze distant.
The maximum sentence for the crime in Spain, without aggravating factors, is 12 years, the time requested by the prosecution. The defense asks for acquittal.
