Damares endorses the entry of a Republican affiliate in the government – 07/22/2023 – Panel

The possible participation of a Republican affiliate in the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva government would not be opposed by Senator Damares Alves (DF), one of the main voices opposing the PT within the party.

“Our party has a balanced and serene posture, not screaming and screaming. We will not change this attitude even if Silvinho goes to government”, she tells the Panel, in reference to the possibility of federal deputy Silvio Costa Filho (PE) being appointed to a ministry.

The folder that has been cited for him to occupy is Science and Technology, displacing the current minister, Luciana Santos, for Human Rights.

Damares says that if the former Minister of Tourism Daniela Carneiro had already joined the Republicans, he would defend her to remain in government.

“If the woman is doing a good job, leave her there, even though she is in our party. I wouldn’t be against it. That wouldn’t be why I would be selling myself to the government,” he said.

Damares says he has guarantees from the president of the Republicans, Marcos Pereira, that the party will not officially enter the government, and that Costa’s eventual nomination is due to his individual relationship with Lula.

“The Republicans have a lot of respect for conscientious objection, they have defined values ​​in defense of life, the family, Christian values. These are non-negotiable”.
