Cruzeiro uses Wallace, runs over Minas and becomes the greatest Superliga champion

O Cruzeiro beat Minas by 3 sets to 0 in the Superliga final this Sunday, in São José dos Campos, and won its eighth title in the competition. With the victory, the team isolated itself in the list of greatest champions and maintained its dynasty.

In the last ten years, the club has won seven league titles. The opposite Wallace started on the bench and was used at specific times to help the team, after obtaining an injunction that annulled the suspension suffered by him for inciting violence against President Lula (PT).

Dominant from the beginning to the end of the game, Cruzeiro did not give Minas a chance and won all three sets. Betting on good serves and on the great performance of Miguel López, author of 22 points, the partials were 25/18, 25/19 and 25/20.

It is the fifth title won by Cruzeiro this season. The club, in addition to the Superliga, also celebrated the Mineiro, Supercopa, Copa Brasil and Sul-Americano. Minas, on the other hand, is in its third consecutive runner-up. The team built its hegemony and it looks like it will last for many years.

The match also marked the farewell of two Minas players from the courts: setter William Arjona, Olympic champion in Rio, and opposite Leandro Vissotto, world champion and Olympic runner-up in London.

After punishment, Wallace returns to Cruzeiro

Who returned to the courts was Wallace, who divided the São José arena between boos and applause the moment he entered the court and scored the winning point for Cruzeiro.

The Olympic champion stayed away from Cruzeiro for a period after a post on his Instagram asking his followers who would “shoot in the face” President Lula (PT). Afterwards, he was punished by the Council of Ethics of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (CECOB) with the suspension of all COB-related activities, which would include the dispute of national competitions.

The volleyball STJD, however, made another interpretation of the case and granted the injunction that allowed the opponent to participate in the game. Despite this, Cruzeiro was reluctant to use him, given the possibility of a possible future punishment. The decision to have Wallace on court was made hours before the match.
