Creation of new municipalities is discussed at Aleam

In all, 45 localities wish to dismember themselves from the current municipalities and become independent.
Manaus (AM) – The Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam) held a Time Assignment, this Wednesday (10), at the request of deputy Sinésio Campos (PT), so that representatives of the Federation of Emancipalist District Development Associations of Amazonas (Faddeam) could express support to the creation of new municipalities in the Amazon.
In all, 45 localities wish to dismember themselves from the current municipalities and become independent. This is the case, for example, of Vila Amazônia, a district of Parintins that has 15,000 inhabitants, a number greater than the population of more than 3,200 Brazilian municipalities.
Sinésio Campos demanded the vote of the Parliamentary Front for the Creation of New Municipalities for understanding that the geopolitical divisions of Amazonas are outdated.
“It is time for us to open this space and hold the debate. There are serious problems in districts that are larger than the host municipalities. The Itapeaçu district, for example, is located in Urucurituba and is huge. Imagine what it’s like for you, with few resources, to have to manage the location. The 1988 Constitution, when it removed the power to legislate from the Legislative Assemblies, if there was a state that was harmed, it was Amazonas, unlike the South, Southeast and Northeast”,
added the deputy.
Reinaldo Serrão, president of Faddeam, said it was the second time that the institution has come to the Legislative Assembly to publicize the emancipation struggle.
“I want to highlight that the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas is the first in Brazil to propose the creation of the Parliamentary Front, giving voice and opportunity to the districts. We are carrying out a survey of economic feasibility studies, together with IBGE, and I want to praise the president of Aleam for his commitment and support to our emancipation struggle”,
thanked.
The president of the Assembly, deputy Roberto Cidade (União Brasil), recalled the struggle of then deputy Hamilton Cidade, his uncle, for the creation of new municipalities.
“Back then, my uncle Hamilton Cidade defended in the 1990s and 1991 and managed to emancipate several municipalities, such as Apuí. We know the difficulty that exists in the interior districts. Not only a difficulty for those who live in the district, but a difficulty for those who manage the city, who often do not have the resources to provide a better quality of life for those who live in the localities”,
stated.
