The NGO CPI, which is being processed in the Senate and investigates the transfer of public resources to non-governmental organizations in the Amazon region, is considering calling the Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva, to give testimony as a guest later this month.

If the head of the department decides not to attend, the president of the parliamentary commission of inquiry, Plínio Valério (PSDB-AM), has already signaled to interlocutors that he will put a call request to a vote. If approved by the members of the board, Marina will be forced to testify.

Even though we seek to avoid strain on the government by summoning ministers, say parliamentarians interviewed by the column, the understanding is that the CPI should not back down at this time.

The testimony of the president of Ibama (Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources), Rodrigo Agostinho Mendonça, is scheduled for next Tuesday (7). The Instituto Socioambiental (ISA) should be at the next hearing, and Marina Silva would follow.
