Correios identified a failure in the Meu Correios application that was leaving customer data “vulnerable”. The situation has already been corrected, according to the state-owned company, without any casualties.

To protect data, Correios is sending messages to users, asking them to change the app’s password. “We detected possible undue access to your registered cell phone number, LGPD protocol was triggered. Consider changing your password”, says the text.

In a note, the state-owned company claims that the “vulnerability” in part of the online system allowed potential fraudsters to relate a CPF number to a cell phone number registered at the Post Office, a situation that has already been corrected.

“Correios informs that exposure and possible undue access to the cell phone number linked to the CPF of some users of the Meu Correios application has been detected.”

The impact reached 5% of registered accounts, but the company did not report the exact number of accounts that were exposed. The state-owned company only mentions a 5% impact on a total of millions of registered profiles that use the app.

How to protect yourself?

Although online security protocols are active – which led to the identification of the vulnerability -, you need to change the password to protect yourself against scammers.

The guideline is to create a new password using online security practices. A password with at least eight characters, containing uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and special characters is indicated.

The exchange is made in the application, clicking on “I forgot the password” and following the system step by step. Then, the customer must click “Finish” and confirm the creation of the new password by email.

According to the state-owned company, as soon as the situation was identified, there was communication to the ANPD (National Data Protection Authority), in addition to the adoption of new security measures.

Customers who have questions or want to make a complaint can contact Correios through the official service channels, which are telephones 3003-0100 (capital cities and metropolitan areas) and 0800-7250100 (for all of Brazil), in addition to the chat and Contact Us , on the website www.correios.com.br.
