The government of Pará is working on initiatives to open around 15 thousand places to accommodate participants at COP30, which will take place in Belém in 2025. The shortage of hotel rooms is one of the main bottlenecks for organizing the UN climate conference.
One of the initiatives is to offer 6,000 beds on cruise ships that will be docked in the city’s port, to be renovated by the federal government to allow the entry of large vessels.
Another idea that is being developed is to bring forward the school calendar and release 9,000 places in schools and universities, which will be renovated and adapted for accommodation.
Furthermore, a building in the capital of Pará belonging to the INSS (National Institute of Social Security), which has been deactivated since 2010, will be renovated and transformed into a place to welcome visitors. Last Friday (6), an agreement for this was signed by governor Helder Barbalho (MDB) and the Minister of Social Security, Carlos Lupi.
