União Brasil in Amazonas remains without leadership until court decision

Wilson Lima has the support of a large part of the party’s members and is already seen as the new commander
Manaus (AM) – After the departure of Pauderney Avelino from the presidency of the União Brasil regional directory in Amazonas, the party has continued without a leader for four months. The decision follows due to a writ of mandamus with a request for an injunction in court that prevents the governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima, from being the new president.
The election meeting was scheduled to take place on August 18, 2023, through a convention, interrupted by the injunction. The act was also supposed to elect a new Executive Committee of the State Directory of União Brasil in Amazonas, which also did not happen.
The national president of União Brasil, Luciano Bivar declared that the governor was legitimately elected at the head of União Brasil in Amazonas and is only awaiting a decision from the Judiciary in light of a writ of mandamus filed by opponents.
While the Justice’s decision is not forthcoming, Wilson Lima has the support of a large part of the members that make up the party in the state and is already seen as the new commander. In recent months, the governor of Amazonas has managed to gather a strengthened base in politics in recent months.
Two meetings were promoted by the governor of Amazonas. The first took place on the same day that the election for the regional directory would take place, and even with the writ of mandamus, Lima stated: “THIS IS THE UNION THAT AMAZONAS NEEDS!”
The second meeting took place six weeks ago, when 21 state deputies who make up the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam) were with the president to, according to him, “deal with parliamentary amendments”. The meeting demonstrated Aleam’s support for the governor.
Opposition?
Pauderney Avelino had called a press conference to talk about the party’s re-election, however, he was surprised by the decision at the time he was holding the press conference and left in a hurry.
According to a document filed by the opposition to Wilson, Avelino’s allies say that the election was carried out with irregularities on the part of the president of the National Executive Committee that established União Brasil, Luciano Caldas Bivar.
Luciano Bivar, according to opponents, called the meeting of “unipersonal form and without competence to do so”. The petitioners further claim that Bivar took an action he should not have taken. As a result, União Brasil in Amazonas remains officially leaderless.
