Deputy Reginaldo Lopes (PT-MG) spoke a little while ago with the People’s Gazette and said he had at least 370 votes to approve the text of the tax reform (PEC 45/2019). He highlighted the adjustments made to the text over the last few days, such as zeroing the basic basket rate and requests from governors for greater representation in the Federative Council, in addition to the contribution of R$ 40 billion to the Regional Development Fund.
Lopes reinforced that he hopes that some deputies who announce a possible opposition will change their minds, because the reform is not ideological, and said he has the support of centre, left and right parties. The congressman countered the criticism of the rush to vote on the matter, saying that this topic has been analyzed for over 40 years, and this specific proposal for at least 5 years, listening to various sectors of the economy.
The mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), scheduled the start of voting for 6 pm, and allowed parliamentarians to vote electronically, which could even speed up the process. To be approved, the PEC needs 308 votes, in two rounds of voting, which may take place this Thursday (6).
