Governor participated in the launch of the Glocal Experience Amazônia 2023, an event that will discuss, in Manaus, Sustainable Development Goals
Manaus (AM) – The governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima, highlighted that discussions involving sustainability and the Amazon must give voice to those who live in it and that those who do not live in the region must know it beyond the treetops. The statement was made this Thursday (6th) during the launch of the Glocal Experience Amazônia 2023, held at a hotel in the central area of Manaus.
“I am very happy to be able to host an event like this here in Amazonas, which will give voice to those who live in the Amazon, for those who live in the state, and will transform Manaus into the stage for these sustainability discussions. Brazil and the world know the Amazon through the treetops and do not know its true roots and this is a moment of reflection for us to think about sustainability, but from the point of view of what is practical and real”,
highlighted Governor Wilson Lima.
The Glocal Experience Amazônia 2023 will take place between the 26th and 28th of August at Teatro Amazonas, Largo de São Sebastião and Palácio da Justiça – and will discuss the Sustainable Development Goals and will also serve as a basis for the discussions of the 30th Edition of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change by 2025 (COP 30), whose headquarters will be the capital of Pará, Belém.
Among those invited to the launch, in addition to Governor Wilson Lima, the CEO of the Rede Amazônica group and coordinator of the event in Manaus, Phelippe Daou Jr., the local programming coordinator, Robério Braga, and the president of the company responsible for Glocal were present. (Dream Factory), Duda Magalhães, as well as local businessmen.
In addition to presenting the program, which will have 70 hours of free content and will soon be available on the event’s website (emphasis was placed on the importance of “thinking globally and acting locally”, hence the name Glocal, in addition to highlighting the theme of the Amazon as a topic central to be debated and understood by the world.
Glocal Experience
Glocal Experience was born in May 2022, holding its first edition in Rio de Janeiro. In addition to the edition in the Amazon, the event will return to the capital of Rio de Janeiro from October 5th to 8th. The meeting should be held annually, including with the intention of holding one in each state of the Amazon, like Roraima (Boa vista), which has already hosted a mini edition of the meeting.
The three days of activities include debates, film projections and fairs, with the expectation of attracting 30,000 people. The State Government sponsors, provides spaces and enters as part of the programming. Private initiative also sponsors.
Governor Wilson Lima will be one of those invited to join the panel that will discuss “COP-30 and G20, Brazil at the center of global discussions”. The state secretaries Marcos Apolo (Culture); Eduardo Taveira (Environment); and Marcellus Campelo (Urban Development and Metropolitan Region), in addition to representatives from other institutions.
