The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) announced this Tuesday (25) its support for Brazil as host of the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
The president of the Paraguayan Football Association (APF), Roberto Harrison, also expressed support for the Brazilian candidacy. If confirmed, Brazil will be the first country in South America to host a Women’s Football World Cup.
At a press conference, Alejandro Domínguez stated that Conmebol is committed to the growth of women’s football on the continent. He also pointed out that Brazil has all the infrastructure, services and logistics conditions to host an event of this magnitude.
The Minister of Sports, Ana Moser, pointed out that, in addition to giving visibility to women’s football in South America, Brazil’s candidacy will bring transversal actions related to the policy of gender equality and the fight against racism.
“The objective of the Ministry of Sport is to deliver a stronger and more powerful women’s football after this experience”he said.
women’s empowerment
The National Football Secretary, José Ferrarezi, reinforced the need to strengthen women in football, not only on the field, but in management and power positions. “Of course we want to host the World Cup, but we mainly want this integration in favor of South American women’s football. The idea is that the games take place in Brazil, but it is a Cup for all of South America, ”he said.
Women’s quest for recognition in Brazilian football comes from a history of struggle and resistance. In the so-called country of football, a presidential decree from 1941 prohibited women from playing the sport. Prohibition only fell in the 1980s.

United States and Mexico, South Africa, Belgium, Germany and Holland also want the vacancy. Brazil has in its favor the argument that the World Cup has never been played on the South American continent. In addition, it has a structure of stadiums inherited from the Men’s Soccer World Cup in 2014.
If Brazil manages to host the event, it will be the third time that a World Cup takes place on national soil. The first was in 1950 and the second in 2014. The country also hosted the 1991 and 1995 Women’s Americas Cup.
The headquarters of the world cup is defined by the International Football Federation (FIFA). The prediction is that the result will be released on May 17, 2024.
World Cup 2023

The competition will bring together 32 teams and will be played between July 20 and August 20, 2023, in Australia and New Zealand.
