Congresswoman Paula Nunes reports having received rape threats – 11/22/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

State deputy Paula Nunes (PSOL), member of the collective mandate of the Feminist Bench in the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo (Alesp), filed a police report this Wednesday (22) after being the target of a racist attack and receiving threats of aggression and rape.

The intimidation took place via email, and its author has not yet been identified. In the text, the attacker used profanity, used racist insults that refer to the period of slavery and said he wanted to rape the parliamentarian, who is eight months pregnant.

The case was registered as a crime of political violence at the Racial Crimes and Intolerance Offenses Station (Decradi) of the São Paulo Civil Police, in the capital of São Paulo. The police authorities present told Nunes that the case will be investigated.

“It is regrettable that parliamentarians, especially black women, continue to suffer political violence in the country, with threats like the ones I received”, says the PSOL deputy.

“We hope that the case is investigated seriously and quickly, because it is urgent that the Civil Police of the states and the federal government dismantle hate groups”, he concludes.
