Confrontation in Volta Redonda generates distress in Flamengo on the eve of another final

Under normal conditions, this match between Flamengo and Volta Redonda, at Raulino de Oliveira, for the Guanabara Cup, would be a mere tactical exercise.

But, for reasons beyond the coach’s competence, the GB Cup game took on distressing contours for Vítor Pereira’s team, with a view to dispute the Recopa.

In theory, only victory will give the red-blacks the necessary peace to build a healthy environment.

Fourth in the standings, Volta Redonda overthrew Vasco and Fluminense, and sold the defeat to Botafogo dearly.

And he didn’t do that because he has a better team, but because he showed a level of competitiveness that Flamengo, like the big losers, hasn’t shown.

Most likely, for this reason, the Portuguese coach rehearses a more cautious formation, reducing the defensive risks with the entry of another defensive midfielder.
