This Tuesday (07), the Economic Affairs Committee (CAE) approved bill (PL) 2,341/2022, which prohibits the charging of bank fees to public educational institutions. The proposal is from senator Randolfe Rodrigues. If there is no appeal for a vote in the Plenary, the text goes to the Chamber of Deputies.

According to the project, banks cannot charge fees for accounts dedicated to the maintenance of public schools. According to data presented by Randolfe, Banco do Brasil received, in 2019, R$5.75 billion in fees charged from educational institutions.

“The amounts transferred to schools are saved in specific bank accounts, linked to education at the federal, state or municipal level. As a result, many financial institutions charge fees and end up withdrawing resources that could be invested directly in education”, explained Randolfe.
