Governor participated in the Brasil Investment Forum 2023 and the Manaus Industrial Pole Sustainability Fair

Participating in the opening of the 2nd edition of the Manaus Industrial Pole Sustainability Fair, governor Wilson Lima highlighted, this Tuesday (7), in Brasília (DF), the importance of tax reform – approved today by the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) and which will proceed to the Senate plenary – maintaining the constitutional guarantees of the Manaus Free Zone (ZFM).

According to Lima, Brazil needs to recognize that the Manaus Free Trade Zone is not only the main economic force in Amazonas, but is responsible for keeping 97% of the state’s Amazon forest preserved. Furthermore, the model generates more than 115 thousand direct jobs and 500 thousand indirect jobs, and that maintaining its tax incentives in the tax reform is an important step towards economic and sustainable development in the region.

“The tax reform is a great advance for Brazil and, the way it was constructed, it takes into account the issue of the Amazon region and the Manaus Free Trade Zone, which is the main economic activity in our state, which has a social role fundamental, it has a preponderant economic role and above all a decisive environmental role”, highlighted Wilson Lima.

FesPIM and PIM

The Manaus Industrial Pole Sustainability Fair (FesPIM) is a pioneering project and its concept is to combine sustainability and technology, encouraging sustainable initiatives to generate employment and income. The project seeks to show the importance of PIM not only for the Amazon region, but for the entire country in relation to economic development based on the correct use of natural resources.

With the confirmed presence of big names from the scientific and business world, the event focuses on promoting sustainability in the Amazon region, aligned with technology. Over the three days, the public will have access to more than 30 stands with a variety of products and innovations directly linked to the Manaus Industrial Pole (PIM). Suframa and the Piatam Institute are responsible for organizing the Fair.

The PIM obtained accumulated nominal revenue of R$115.03 billion in the first eight months of this 2023, which represents a decrease of 0.20% compared to the value achieved from January to August last year (R$115.2 billion) . In dollars, accumulated revenue until August was US$23.02 billion, an increase of 0.81% compared to the same period in 2022 (US$22.88 billion).

As for labor, PIM industries closed the month of August with 111,396 workers employed, including permanent, temporary and outsourced workers. Since October 2020, PIM has maintained a monthly record of more than 100 thousand jobs. The partial data is part of the PIM Performance Indicators.

Brazil Investment Forum 2023

Governor Wilson Lima participated, this Tuesday (7), in Brasília, in the Brasil Investment Forum 2023 (BIF 23), the largest foreign investment event in Latin America, an occasion in which he highlighted the opportunities in the state to attract companies and industries interested in contribute to the sustainable economic development of the region, such as the potential in bioeconomy, fish farming, agriculture, tourism and mining.

The event was attended by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva; vice-president Geraldo Alckmin; ministers Mauro Vieira (Foreign Affairs), Simone Tebet (Planning) and the president of ApexBrasil, Jorge Viana; in addition to the president of the IDB, Ilan Goldfajn; among other ministers, governors and businesspeople. Secretaries Marcellus Campêlo (Sedurb) and Inês Carolina Simonetti (Federative and International Relations, Serfi).

The Brasil Investment Forum 2023 is the result of a partnership between the Federal Government of Brazil, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil). This year, the event highlights investment opportunities and the Brazilian business environment, as well as the new government’s proposals, focusing on sustainability and neo-industrialization, as well as topics such as technology, innovation and participation investment initiatives.
