The governor of Amapá, Clecio Luis, participated in an important initiative that intends to recompose the learning of children in public schools. Last Monday, the 12th, the president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva signed the National Literate Child Commitment. The new educational policy aims to support more effective actions by states, municipalities and the Federal District.

“One of the great challenges of our management is to take the student back to school. But take it with interest, with satisfaction and that he has the recomposition of the learning lost during the pandemic. That is why it is very important to work together with the Federal, State and Municipal Governments in a consolidated manner so that we can teach literacy at the right age”highlighted the governor.

The goal of the Ministry of Education is to ensure that all children are literate by the end of the 2nd year of elementary school, aged 6 and 7, as provided for in Target 5 of the National Education Plan (PNE).

The planned federal investment is R$ 2 billion over four years. The funds will be used to pay for teacher training, supplementary material support and school infrastructure. There will also be a monitoring and support group for the program in the states and municipalities.

Literate Child

It will be up to each state to elaborate the State Literacy Policy, in articulation with the municipalities; support municipalities in the construction of their Municipal Policy; establish the Strategic Commitment Committee; indicate state and regional articulators for management and training and follow up on implementation.

The Ministry of Education will have five work fronts:

  • Management and Governance, providing 7,223 grants to education organizers;
  • Training, offering resources, virtual platforms and specific programs for this purpose;
  • Physical and Pedagogical Infrastructure, guaranteeing resources for teaching materials, literature books and expansion of school infrastructure;
  • Recognition of Good Practices, creating awards for managers committed to the program’s public policies;
  • Assessment System, developing technical parameters and assessment assistance to be made available to teachers.
