The demand arose from a discussion within the scope of the State Committee to Combat Obstetric Violence
Manaus (AM) – A draft bill sent to Manaus City Hall by state deputy Alessandra Campelo (PSC) proposes the creation of the Pregnant Free Pass in the municipal public transport system. The document has already been forwarded to Mayor David Almeida. A draft, in parliamentary language, is a draft, proposal or preliminary version of a text not yet formally presented as a proposal to the Legislative House.
According to the deputy, the demand arose from a discussion within the State Committee to Combat Obstetric Violence, which the Special Attorney for Women of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Amazonas has been part of since May.
“Maternal mortality is a serious public health problem and Amazonas has the highest maternal mortality rates compared to other states, most of the causes being considered preventable”,
highlights the deputy in the justification of the proposal.
Alessandra Campelo explains that the indicator intends, through the Pregnant Free Pass, to guarantee that the right and access to public health during the prenatal period are preserved for pregnant women in the municipality, in view of the importance of such monitoring for early diagnosis of possible fetal and maternal pathologies, thus enabling a healthy development with less risk for mother and baby.
“With this proposal, we want to encourage women to have access to prenatal consultations. The Ministry of Health recommends a minimum of six appointments, but in Manaus the rate of absenteeism in appointments is over 50%. In addition to prenatal consultations, pregnant women need to undergo tests, exams and specific consultations with nutrition, psychology and other professionals, which is why the Pregnant Free Pass is essential”,
emphasized the deputy.
