Homophobic chants were chanted by Corinthians fans at Neo Química Arena before and during the derby between Corinthians and São Paulo played this Sunday (14). The match ended 1-1.

Shortly after the start of the second half, referee Bruno Arleu de Araujo (RJ) stopped the match for about two minutes to record what happened.

Sound and visual warnings were also displayed on the stadium’s screens reminding the ban on this type of chant.

“Let’s go Corinthians, we’ll have to win these fagots” and “Go for them, Timão” were the chants sung by the home team’s fans as soon as the teams entered the field and during moments of the derby for the Brazilian Championship.

Chants of this type can be classified in article 243-G of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice, which deals with “practicing a discriminatory, disdainful or outrageous act, related to prejudice due to ethnic origin, race, sex, color, age, condition of elderly or disabled person”.

In these cases, the maximum penalty can reach the loss of three points and a fine of up to R$ 100,000.
