The Civil Police of São Paulo deployed 16 police officers to reinforce the work of the municipal and state Procons in São Sebastião in the fight against the practice of abusive prices.
After heavy rains on the north coast that caused landslides and shortages of products, survivors reported prices well above the market.
On Wednesday (22), for example, a Globo reporter cried live when reporting that there were traders selling a liter of water for R$ 93 in the region of São Sebastião, the most affected by the storm.
According to the mayor of the municipality, Felipe Augusto (PSDB), all types of abuse will be fought.
This Thursday (23), the mayors of the north coast will meet with the ministers of Regional Development and National Integration, Waldez Góes, and of Ports, Márcio França.
As coordinator of the federal government’s actions, Waldez will deal with the state of public calamity in the municipalities, distribution of resources and work plan. The meeting takes place in Ubatuba, after flying over the region.
This Wednesday (22), 80 police officers from the PM’s shock troops were sent to the north coast of São Paulo to prevent looting. In addition to them, Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) said that another 300 PMs would arrive to reinforce security.
The director of Procon, Wilton Ruas, said that although there is no price regulation in Brazil, the Consumer Defense Code establishes, in article 39, that it is forbidden for suppliers to raise the price of products or services without just cause, which is aggravated in situations of extreme fragility of the consumer.
According to him, the abuses on the coast of São Paulo must be reported to Procon so that the cases are investigated and, in case of confirmation, the traders are punished.
