Cid handed over Bolsonaro – 09/23/2023 – Celso Rocha de Barros

If there is a guy stupid enough to die in jail for Bolsonaro, he must not have been placed first in his class in the Army.

For this reason, Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid decided to hand Jair over to the police: he didn’t want to be a martyr in a religion whose messiah was already planning to retire with an allowance from Valdemar Costa Neto and a nest egg built on swag.

According to excerpts from Cid’s statement already obtained by the press, then-president Jair Bolsonaro called a meeting with the heads of the Armed Forces after being defeated in the 2022 presidential election.

He brought a draft coup declaration that had been given to him by advisor Filipe Martins. Martins is a follower of Olavo de Carvalho, a guru of Bolsonarism who passed away, with an unforgivable delay, in 2022.

According to Cid, the heads of the Army and Air Force did not accept Jair’s proposal. Only the Navy commander, Almir Garnier dos Santos, would have made his troops available for the coup.

Cid’s report confirms a report by Ana Clara Costa, published in the magazine “piauí” in June 2023, who told how the admiral, “on duty for the coup”, had been the only head of the Forces to accept the coup adventure proposed by Bolsonaro in 2022.

If Cid is telling the truth, Admiral Garnier is a deserter who should receive the treatment reserved for deserters by military codes and martial tradition. Ulysses Guimarães said it well: a traitor to the Constitution is a traitor to the country.

If Cid is telling the truth, Garnier is, first and foremost, a thief: he intended to steal the weapons of the Navy, which he had sworn to honor, to impose on Brazilians the dictatorship of bandits to whom voters had just denied re-election.

If Garnier tried the same trick, say, in the United States, he would wake up the next day washing the underwear of the head of Al Qaeda in Guantánamo.

But if this is Garnier’s judgment, what about Bolsonaro, author of the invitation that Garnier would have accepted?

In the meeting described by Cid, this individual, Jair Messias Bolsonaro, occupying the top of the Executive Branch, openly proposed, to men who commanded all of the Brazilian military, that they destroy Brazilian democracy in order to guarantee his little mouth.

He proposed this shortly after the majority of the electorate made it clear that they did not support him. He proposed the coup, therefore, knowing that he was also proposing a civil war.

When, in the following weeks, the coup plotters camped in front of the barracks and, on January 8, destroyed the headquarters of the Powers of the Republic, they certainly knew what Jair was proposing and that there were people like Garnier accepting it.

The camps were not dismantled sooner, after all, because they were full of military families.

The coup plotters on January 8 only repeated, in the public square, the offer that Bolsonaro made to the military in a closed meeting: steal the weapons of the Republic, destroy democracy, give us a hard time.

After what Cid told us, it is easier to understand the courage of the January 8th coup plotters. As they smashed the buildings, they looked up, hoping that a popular uprising would lead more Garniers to join Bolsonaro. Jair organized the blow from above and inspired it from below.
