About to join the PSB after clashes in the PDT with his brother, former minister Ciro Gomes, senator Cid Gomes even agreed on the mass migration of his political group to the PSDB, but backed down at the last moment.
The reason was the demand from former senator Tasso Jereissati (PSDB-CE) that they oppose the PT. Cid didn’t agree.
The affiliation would lead to the PSDB having three senators again and regaining its leadership office in the Senate. The idea was that Cid would share command of the Tucano party in Ceará with Tasso.
At the end of October, Cid and Ciro had a shouting match at a PDT meeting and, according to reports from those present, they almost came to blows. Ciro defended that the PDT should be in opposition to the PT and the Elmano de Freitas government (PT-CE), while the senator preferred the alliance.
