Federal deputy Chris Tonietto (PL-RJ) was elected this Tuesday (9) as vice-president of the Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ) of the Chamber of Deputies. She will assume the role of president in the absence of president Caroline de Toni (PL-SC).

Tonietto, who is in opposition to President Lula’s government and a very active parliamentarian in defense of life since conception, was elected with 28 votes in favor and 6 blank votes.

Parliamentarians from the PT-PCdoB-PV and PSOL federation abandoned the commission before the start of the vote that chose Tonietto for the position.

Upon learning the result, the parliamentarian said it was a “great honor” to assume the vice-presidency of the CCJ and considered it “a historic day”. “For the first time, the presidency and vice-presidency of this important commission are both held by women,” she said.

“I thank my fellow parliamentarians for the trust they have placed in me, and I commit to working hard, alongside my dear colleague Carol de Toni, to do justice to each vote received, and to the interests of Brazilian citizens”, wrote the deputy.

Who is Chris Tonietto

Chris Tonietto is serving her second consecutive term as federal deputy for Rio de Janeiro and is president of PL Mulher in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Catholic, wife and mother, she works in defense of conservative agendas such as the defense of life in a non-negotiable way (against abortion in all cases), the fight against communism, gender ideology, the liberation of drugs and judicial activism.

The deputy is president of the Parliamentary Front Against Abortion and in Defense of Life, in addition to being the author of the bill that establishes the Week of the Unborn and another that ensures that a person’s “civil personality” begins “from their conception” .
