The match between Colo-Colo and Huachipato, for the 2024 Super Cup, played this Sunday (11), at the National Stadium in Santiago, was suspended due to violent acts by Colo-Colo fans.

“We want to inform you that this sporting event has been suspended. We regret the incidents and the bad behavior of the fans that meant that this game did not reach the end”, said the event organizers.

The match was suspended after 78 minutes due to serious violations in the north stand of the renovated stadium for the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.

According to the local press, the problems with the Colo-Colo fans, located in the north stands, began due to the existence of a screen that alluded to the death of former president of Chile Sebastián Piñera, which was removed, which led to incidents among employees security and fans.

Five firefighters came to help and extinguish the chairs that the fans had ripped off.

With a penalty goal from Vidal, Colo-Colo defeated Huachipato 2-0 in the 2024 Super Cup.

Before and during the match, Colo-Colo rioters caused disorder in the north gallery of the stadium with 32 thousand people.

The operations and security manager of the Chilean National Professional Football Federation, Felipe de Pablo, explained that the decision to suspend the duel was taken because the incidents came close to putting the integrity of the players at risk.

“We regret and condemn the acts of violence that occurred. It is important to highlight that we complied with security provisions, increased resources and the entire stadium operated without problems,” the director told the press.
