Chamber of SP approves CPI to investigate copper wire theft – 04/06/2023 – Panel

The São Paulo City Council approved this Wednesday (5) the creation of a CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) to investigate the theft of copper wires and cables in the capital. The application for opening the commission was presented by councilor Coronel Salles, from the PSD.
The CPI was symbolically approved, with no opposing votes. As the Panel showed, CPIs can also be set up to investigate occupations of public and private properties in São Paulo and mistreatment of animals.
The CPI on wire and cable theft aims to identify perpetrators and receivers, measure the impacts on the city (lack of lighting, traffic lights off, traffic accidents, depredation of poles) and suggest solutions.
According to data from CET (Traffic Engineering Company), between the months of January and February 2023 there have already been 1,409 records of thefts, in a total of 148.8 km of cables. In 2022, there were 1,112 records of occurrences in the city.
