The Chamber of Deputies has scheduled a formal session for the 28th to honor the writer Olavo de Carvalho, who died in January last year. The application for the tribute was approved by the Board of Directors of the house last Wednesday (12) at the request of federal deputy Bia Kicis (PL-DF) and signed with deputy Altineu Côrtes (PL-RJ), leader of the party.
The request, however, does not justify the reason for the session, only that the request is based on the internal regulation of the Chamber, which states that the house “may hold a solemn session for special commemorations or reception of high personalities”. The session will be at 10 am.
Olavo de Carvalho died on January 24, 2022, aged 74. The cause of death was not disclosed by the family. The self-taught writer and philosopher had a strong influence on the Brazilian right due to his conservative profile.
In 2002, he founded the website Mídia sem Máscara, which became the first relevant vehicle on the Brazilian internet to refute a leftist view of the press, bringing together names that would join a new movement of Brazilian conservatism.
In 2005, he moved from Paraná to the United States, starting to live in Richmond, in the interior of the state of Virginia. There, she can indulge in one of what has become her main hobbies, hunting.
In the US, he continued to collaborate with Brazilian newspapers, notably O Globo, until his resignation. With the end of his column, he began to dedicate himself more diligently to the online philosophy course, which he taught until the end of his life.
