Chamber approves Professor Goreth’s project on the culture of peace in schools – News of Brazil

The deputy from Amapá, Professor Goreth (PDT), had approved, in the Federal Chamber, Wednesday, 16, the Bill nº 1482, of its authorship, that establishes guidelines for the creation of the National Policy of Promotion of the Culture of Peace in the Schools. The initiative aims to promote actions that promote a culture of peace and the prevention of violence in public and private schools. The proposal will be sent to the Senate.
To talk about the subject, Professor Goreth participated in the LuizMeloEntrevista program (Diário FM 90.9) this Friday, the 18th, highlighting that the project for the culture of peace in schools was the first of her authorship to be approved, in less than eight months of mandate, something difficult to happen in Brazilian federal parliaments – Senate and Chamber.
The creation of the National Policy for the Promotion of the Culture of Peace in Schools had as its rapporteur the deputy Lídice da Mata, who in an opinion punctuated the violent attacks on schools in recent times. “Brazilian society has experienced sad episodes of violence in the school environment, some of it serious, raising an alert to the importance of working on the issue within educational spaces”, she highlighted.
Professor Goreth stated that the approval of the project is an important achievement for Brazilian education. “The culture of peace is essential for the development of a more just and egalitarian society”said the parliamentarian. “The creation of a national policy will help Brazilian schools to become more peaceful and safe environments for all students”completed.
The policy to combat violence in schools must be governed by nine principles, including:
- Promotion of life: with initiatives that foster a culture of peace and human solidarity;
- Valuing dialogue and conviviality between generations: with the development of forms, actions and projects that favor conviviality, dialogue and sociability;
- Human dignity: reduction of marginalization and social inequalities as a way of preventing violence;
- Restorative pedagogy: disseminate respect for the identity and individual and collective diversity of citizens as a way of promoting tolerance and fighting violence;
- Respect for diversity: valuing and respecting cultural, ethnic, religious, gender and sexual orientation diversity, recognizing the importance of inclusion and harmonious coexistence between differences.
The initiative also provides, among its guidelines, the training of education professionals in pedagogical practices aimed at preventing violence and promoting a culture of peace, in addition to creating prevention and crisis management protocols to deal with situations of violence in public and private schools across the country.
The policy will admit partnerships, technical and financial cooperation with public, private and third sector agents, to contribute to the construction of public policies for the promotion, integration and development of the culture of peace.
Amapá
Schools in the state public education network in Amapá have the Education for Peace Program (Epaz). The initiative is a broad program to promote peace in the school environment and combat the phenomenon of violence, such as bullying, intimidation, physical and verbal aggression in school institutions. Established by Law No. 2,282/2018, it was implemented by the State Department of Education, under the then management of Professor Goreth.
