According to the CGU, there was a potential overpayment of BRL 1,395,238,000 in taxi assistance made to 246,722 beneficiaries
After an audit, the CGU (Controladoria-Geral da União) identified undue payments of almost BRL 2 billion referring to taxi and truck driver aid during the Bolsonaro government.
It is worth noting that the benefits were paid during the second half of the year, when the former president was seeking re-election.
Taxi driver assistance
According to the CGU, there was a potential undue payment of BRL 1,395,238,000 of taxi assistance made to 246,722 beneficiaries who “did not meet the eligibility criteria for the benefit or requirements established by law for the exercise of the activity”.
The values are equivalent to 75% of the effective credits (or R$ 1.8 billion) and 78% of the beneficiaries (314,025). According to the agency, the data reveal “potential flaws in internal controls in the operationalization of the program.
Truck Driver Assistance
Regarding the truck driver aid, the CGU identified the potential overpayment of BRL 582,873,000. The amount represents 25% of the total amount paid – which is BRL 2,321,729,000.
“The potential damage is due to the fact that, of the 402,773 beneficiaries who participated in the program, 110,051 did not meet the eligibility criteria for receiving the benefit or the regulatory requirements for carrying out the activity, as identified by the audit”.
