CBF dismisses Juninho Paulista and seeks new director for the national team

The CBF summit decided to dismiss the coordinator of the Brazilian team, Juninho Paulista. The resignation has not yet been formalized and it is possible that the leader will remain in office for a few more days for a transition, but the decision has already been taken by the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, in the midst of a restructuring in the entity.

Juninho Paulista has been coordinating the Brazilian national team since July 2019. Before, he held the position of CBF development director. The former player, who participated in the five-time campaign in 2002, replaced Edu Gaspar, who left the CBF for Arsenal, in England, that year.

Juninho arrived at the CBF at the hands of the then president of the entity Rogério Caboclo, who was removed in 2021. The leader leaves the CBF along with the entire technical committee of Tite, who endorsed his hiring in 2019.

The CBF is now looking for a new director for the selection. The idea is to hire someone with a modern and professional profile, who would lead a sports project in the coming years. The profile thought of at CBF is of a director like Thiago Scuro, with his project built at Red Bull Bragantino. Something similar is also seen in Gabriel Lima, on Cruzeiro. It does not mean that these will be the names for the position, but the desired model is similar to theirs in the clubs.

Another line is the political lobby that has been done in favor of the former president of Corinthians Andrés Sanchez. Former director of the selection between 2011 and 2012, his name is considered among politicians within the CBF.
