The attacker Canobbio completed 100 games with the Athletico in the Atletiba classic. The number 14, who was a starter in the 1-1 with Coritiba, however, is experiencing a goal drought in 2024.
Canobbio has already played seven games (six as a starter) this season, but has not scored any goals and only provided one assist (in his debut against Andraus). Compared to the beginning of last year, for example, the striker already had two goals and two assists with the same number of matches. His last goal for Furacão, in fact, was in the 1-1 draw with Bahia in the 34th round of the Brasileirão, away from home, on November 12, 2023.

In his third season with the club, the Uruguayan has a total of 48 wins, 25 draws, 26 defeats, with nine goals scored. The striker is the current fifth most expensive signing in Athletico’s history, his arrival from Peñarol in March 2022 cost R$15.2 million. Canobbio said he dreams of winning a big title at Furacão.
“It’s a source of pride, especially because Athletico is evolving a lot in America with its project and being part of such a big club with so many goals, which I really like, you can’t ignore it and you have to enjoy it. It’s about continuing to work to achieve a great title here”, he told Hurricane Network.
In January, the 25-year-old striker was targeted by Spain’s Granada. But Furacão refused the loan proposal, with an option to purchase. His contract with Rubro-Negro is valid until March 2027.

Top-3 most memorable games for Athletico
In an interview with the club’s networks, Canobbio also commented on the most memorable games of his career with Furacão so far: Coritiba, Cruzeiro and Internacional, all for Brasileirão 2023.
“Three games [são marcantes], from different aspects. There’s a game against Coritiba, which we won 3-2. That was a unique moment that I managed to live, I scored the winning goal at the end. It was wonderful. Another was the 3-3 game against cruise. This game I felt was impossible. I received the ball and went forward”, he recalled.
“Another game that changed a lot, last year, when I changed the key in my head, was against International in Porto Alegre, which we hadn’t won in the Brasileirão since 1998. I went in at half-time, I felt good and then I built confidence in my game. Since then, I’ve been able to enjoy every game,” he added.
