Germán Cano, 35, continues to be an artillery marvel for the second consecutive season.

Responsible for qualifying Fluminense for the Libertadores decision by scoring the winning goal against Internacional, in Beira-Rio, the Argentine is only behind in the number of goals in 2023 of three of the most renowned strikers in activity.

Known as “the one-touch scorer”, due to his precise finishes without adjusting the ball first, Cano has accumulated 36 goals in 50 matches for the Rio team this year.

Ahead of him, considering prominent leagues in the football scene, are two competitors for the best in the world award (from FIFA and/or France Football magazine), the Norwegian Erling Haaland (Manchester City) and the Englishman Harry Kane (Bayern Munich ), and the renowned Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, CR7 (Al Nassr/Saudi Arabia).

The number of times that Fluminense’s number 14 has found the back of the net since January is higher than that of other stars, such as Kylian Mbappé (PSG), vice-world champion with France in Qatar-2022, who has scored 35 goals this year, and the Nigerian Victor Osihmen (Napoli), who is 34.

With the same 36 goals as Cano is Lautaro Martínez, who became famous for missing goals with champion Argentina in the World Cup, but is effective with Inter Milan in 2023.

Another top scorer, an Argentine like Lautaro, who has so far managed to surpass the 30 goals mark in just over nine months is Mauro Icardi. There are 32 for the center forward from Galatasaray, from Türkiye.
