Mato Grosso businessman Argino Bedin, who was summoned to give testimony to the CPMI on January 8th at the National Congress, became emotional during this Tuesday’s session (3). The hearing, which began at around 10:30 am, lasted throughout the day, in which he used a habeas corpus granted by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) on Monday (2) so as not to generate evidence against him.

During the morning session, Bedin became emotional during a speech by deputy Filipe Barros (PL-PR), who came to the businessman’s defense for being identified as one of the alleged financiers of the invasion of the headquarters of the Three Powers, in Brasília.

“It is not possible for us to continue putting a successful, successful businessman, a source of pride for our country, like Mr. Argino Bedin, in the dock of this CPMI, and treat him as if he were a terrorist. All solidarity with you and your family”, said Filipe Barros.

The parliamentarian added, saying that he is a “pride for Brazil”, which brought the businessman to tears, being helped by the lawyer who was at his side. Shortly afterwards, deputy Tereza Cristina (PP-MS) went to the stand to show solidarity with Bedin.

Shortly afterwards, Senator Damares Alves (Republicanos-DF) also took the stand to greet the businessman, saying that she is “waiting for the excellent minister of human rights to come and follow a session of this CPMI and see what they have done and continue to do with children, women and elderly people.”

Federal deputy Carlos Jordy (PL-RJ) posted a video on social media of Damares greeting Bedin and classified it as “injustice that is being promoted to destroy opponents and build narratives and is inhumane”.

“The ends justify the means for these people. One day the truth will prevail and the agents of the dictatorship will pay for their crimes”, said the deputy.

At the end of the morning session, in the early afternoon, deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG) also went up to the committee’s rostrum to show solidarity with the businessman. “What they are doing to you is unfair. An honest, upright man who makes me proud. To Mr. Bedin and his entire family: we are with you! Remain firm and count on our strength and prayers”, said the parliamentarian on social media.

Senator Magno Malta (PL-ES) also showed solidarity with the businessman shortly afterwards. “Argino Bedin, pride of Brazilian agribusiness,” he said on social media.

When the session resumed in the afternoon, deputy Marco Feliciano (PL-SP) adopted a speech similar to that of Barros in the morning in defense of the businessman. “It’s regrettable, I cried when you cried here. Because that’s how my heart feels knowing how many people are being wronged,” he said.

Bedin, however, was not brought to tears, but greeted and thanked the deputy for his words.
