Brazilian is injured and is out of the Paris Olympics – News of Brazil

Sania Lima, recognized as the best athlete of the year in badminton at the Brazil Olympic Awards, no longer has a chance to represent the country at the Paris 2024 Olympics. With a ligament injury in her left knee, suffered at the end of last year, the 21-year-old from Piauí years is out of contention.

The decision was taken following the results of exams carried out by the Brazilian Badminton Confederation (CBBd). According to the entity, the athlete should undergo surgery in the next few days. Recovery time is estimated to be at least nine months.

The season had a tragic end for the Brazilian. Sania was competing in the Canadian International Tournament alongside Davi Silva, when she sprained her left knee in the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles category, against the United States.

The Brazilian was attended to by the middle team, tried to return to the match, but had to leave carried by Marco Vasconcelos, coach of the Brazilian team.

Performance at the Pan American Games

Sania was a silver medalist in mixed doubles and won bronze in women’s doubles, in Chile, at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago.

The athlete was number 46 in the world ranking of mixed doubles alongside Davi Silva. In the women’s doubles category, she was in 50th place with Juliana Vieira. A place in the Olympics depended on achieving a position among the top 25, by the end of April.
