The new generation of speed canoeing presented its business card this Friday, the 3rd, in San Pedro de la Paz, Chile. At 21 years old, young Evandilson Neto and Felipe Vieira won the silver medal at the Pan American Games in the C2 500m race. The representative result in the debut of the two in the continental competition projects them as the newest talents coming from an important hub of the sport in the country, the city of Ubaitaba, in Bahia. It was from there that Olympic champion and multi-medallist Isaquias Queiroz also emerged.

“Ubaitaba is the home of canoeing. Not just Ubaitaba, but also Itacaré and the whole of Bahia. There is a new generation coming that promises a lot”, said Felipe, who had to sell raffle tickets at the beginning of his career to save money and pay for his trips. His companion, Evandilson, was discovered on a social project.

The outstanding results in the youth categories caught the attention of the Brazilian Canoeing Confederation, which led them to join the team of Lauro Souza, coach of Isaquias Queiroz. Now medalists at the Pan American Games, the young people celebrated and plan to soar even higher in the future. “It’s a unique moment to be on the podium, it’s exciting. A unique experience. For the beautiful work of our coach Lauro, the word is gratitude”, celebrated Evandilson.
