Brazil wants to see other football in the national team – 10/10/2023 – Tostão

The Brazilian team faces Venezuela, this Thursday (12), in Cuiabá, in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Just as happened in the first two games with Fernando Diniz, the team must maintain the tactical design, at least on the drawing board, which it was used by Tite in the 2022 World Cup, with two fast, dribbling wingers, Neymar close to the center forward, two in midfield and four defenders.

This formation against inferior teams, like Venezuela and most of the qualifying opponents, works well because the other teams score a lot from behind and allow pressure. When the rival is at the same level, the presence of many attackers and few midfielders makes it very difficult for Brazil to exchange passes and control the ball and the game. Croatia, with several midfielders of high technical level, kept the ball more in midfield, an important factor in the draw and Brazil’s elimination on penalties.

The main teams and selections in the world have a trio in midfield, such as Manchester City, Real Madrid and the teams from France, England and Argentina, world champions. Midfielders De Paul, Enzo Fernández and Mac Allister, as well as Messi, who returned to receive the ball, were decisive in winning the title. In the Brazilian team, Neymar usually retreats to participate in organizing plays, but he doesn’t have Messi’s collective intelligence.

Bruno Guimarães’ technical rise in England could improve the quality of the Brazilian midfield. He should have already been a starter in the last World Cup, alongside Casemiro. Bruno is a mix of midfielder and midfielder, like André, from Fluminense, another player called up. Casemiro also improved in his advances and started making decisive passes and scoring goals.

The Brazilian team lacks exceptional players, at the level of the best in the world, on the flanks and in the center forward position, as well as an ace midfielder to play alongside Casemiro. Brazil has good defenders, but none of the same technical level as Thiago Silva, who retired with the national team.

Furthermore, Neymar, for various reasons, never shone in a World Cup the way we imagined, as he did in many moments at Santos, Barcelona, ​​PSG and the Brazilian team outside of the World Cups.

The team we want to see with Fernando Diniz is the one that uses the strategies and concepts that we admire in the coach, despite the risks he takes due to his way of playing. Botafogo scored further behind and with quick counterattacks made great use of the spaces left behind Fluminense’s advanced defenders. Fernando Diniz’s boldness is dangerous. Worse is the sameness.
