Brazil Legislative Index: Amom receives maximum score for performance above the national average in the Chamber

The parliamentarian from Amazonas obtained a high rating and was above the national average in areas such as oversight and parliamentary production

Brasilia – Federal deputy Amom Mandel (Cidadania-AM), the youngest member of the National Congress, was rated with the highest score (5 stars) by the Legisla Brasil Index. This is a platform that analyzes, through data provided by the Chamber of Deputies itself, the performance of the 513 parliamentarians. Amom shares the position with political veterans, despite facing a first term.

One of the highlights of the Amazonian was maintaining, within the Legislature, his supervisory profile, as he did as a councilor. He separated himself from the national average of the other State representatives, recorded at 3.3, as he presented a high number of information and inspection requests, most of which were addressed to the various ministers.

“One of the duties of a federal deputy is to supervise the work of the Executive Branch and the indirect administration of the country and my voters put me here with exactly that expectation. This is what I have done, through the tools I have within the House, I am able to obtain correct information, move forward in investigating irregularities in my state”,

Mandel explained.

Ammon’s mobilization power remains high as indicated by the evaluation, with a score of 6.3, which is also an average above the national average. The placement is a reflection of the work within the Chamber of Deputies by convening public hearings on issues in which it is involved. Recently, this process was repeated in the Commission for the Environment and Sustainable Development (CMADS), when the deputy approved a request to hold a public hearing to debate the National Policy for Territorial and Environmental Management of Indigenous Lands (PNGATI) in conjunction with the Commission for Amazon and the Original and Traditional Peoples (CPovos). The objective is always to include all actors in the discussions, especially the most vulnerable.

Still in his first term, Amom has made articulations. He is one of eight members of the Shared Cabinet, whose purpose is to make policy based on data and evidence, participatory and proposing solutions. He has also been garnering support for amendments presented, the last one being the mini-electoral reform to toughen the punishment for candidates who illicitly capture or spend campaign resources, an action known as “box 2”.

Furthermore, Mandel remains among the most productive parliamentarians on the State bench, with a total of 65 Bills (PLs), with high relevance, according to the assessment of Legisla Brasil.

The Amazon deputy is still recognized as the most economical member of the Chamber of Deputies. “I believe that it is possible to do a good job balancing finances and meeting the needs of the population”, declared Amom.

The index

The Legisla Brasil Index was created in 2022, as a platform for evaluating the performance of parliamentarians in each new legislature. The survey considers data provided by the Chamber of Deputies itself and aims to bring more transparency to the political scenario, as well as evidence for parliamentarians to improve their mandates.

Performance is measured across four axes – legislative production, oversight, mobilization and party alignment – ​​and 17 indicators defined as essential pillars for responsible legislative action.
