The National Integration and Regional Development Commission of the Chamber of Deputies is holding a seminar, this Tuesday, 7th, to debate the so-called ‘Amazon Factor’, a term used to refer to the additional logistics and transportation costs that companies and governments need to bear to carry out actions in the North region.
Professor Goreth (PDT-AP) is the author of the request to hold the seminar. She spoke this Tuesday morning, 7th, on the program LuizMeloInterview (Diário FM 90.9), considering the event a tool to debate the equity of public investments, that is, a “fair and equitable” distribution of resources according to the characteristics of the different regions of Brazil.
For the deputy, costs are directly influenced by the complexity of each region, and for the Amazon, with its hot and humid climate, schools with wooden constructions require annual maintenance of their infrastructure, which is not commonly done by most companies .
Investment equity, according to Goreth, is important to ensure that all regions have equal conditions to compete and develop. This equality of opportunities contributes “to reduce economic and social disparities and to promote more sustainable and integrated development”.
In these locations, as the deputy informs, it is common for nature itself to determine the school calendar, forcing many riverside schools to adapt class times to the time of high tide. Goreth also regrets that the region has “terrible” socioeconomic results, as quality public policies are not offered.
