Botafogo draws with Bragantino, and Palmeiras is the new leader – 12/11/2023 – Sport

In a direct duel for the leadership of the Brazilian Championship, Bragantino and Botafogo drew 2-2 this Sunday afternoon (12), in Bragança Paulista. The result leaves Palmeiras, who beat Internacional 3-0 on Saturday night (11), in the lead of the Brazilian Championship. Botafogo, which has one game less than its rival, has been at the top since the third round, in April.

The Rio team now has 60 points, two less than Palmeiras. The one from the interior of São Paulo has 59, in fourth place.

The result extends Botafogo’s streak without winning. There are already six matches. The team had lost the last four before this Saturday, and thus saw its fat lead disappear, until it was overtaken.

The match was Botafogo’s last under the command of interim Lúcio Flávio. The club agreed to hire Tiago Nunes, who was at Sporting Cristal, in Peru, and he will lead the team from the next game onwards.

The home team opened the scoring after just two minutes. Vitinho shot, the ball hit the post and Uruguayan Tiago Borbas completed the ball into the net with the rebound.

The game then developed without much chance for either side, until Botafogo achieved a lightning-fast turnaround. At 35, Victor Sá shot from outside the area to equalize; two minutes later, Juninho Capixaba poorly cut a cross from the left and Eduardo made the second for the Cariocas.

Bragantino came forward in the second half. He created good chances in the first minutes, with Eduardo Sasha and Jadsom. But the momentum faded over the next few minutes, and Botafogo ended up taking few risks most of the time. In stoppage time, however, Sorriso crossed and Tiago Borbas, again, sent it into the net, this time with a header.

The team from the interior of São Paulo returns to the field on Thursday (23), when they face Flamengo, in Rio, at 9:30 pm; on the same day, at 7pm, Botafogo faces Fortaleza in the capital of Ceará.
