Brother of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), Angelo Guido Bolsonaro, 70, became a defendant this month after being denounced by the São Paulo Public Ministry for homophobia and threatening a supermarket employee in the interior of São Paulo.

In a statement to the Civil Police, Angelo acknowledged the conflict, but denied having used discriminatory expressions. He told the Panel that this was a personal issue and declined to comment.

The case took place in August 2023, in Eldorado (SP), the city in which the former president was raised. Alex de Oliveira, who was 17 at the time, said in a statement to police that he tapped a co-worker on the shoulder.

Angelo then allegedly told her: “He hit you? In addition to wearing an earring, he’s definitely a fagot and you can’t say anything that anything is racist.” The employee confirmed to police that she heard the customer’s comment.

Weeks later, according to Alex, Angelo pushed a cart against him and said “holy shit”. The employee reportedly responded and the former president’s brother retorted, calling him “broken” and saying that if he wanted, they could “settle it outside” and “get out with the punch.”

In November, Angelo gave a statement and said that he had an argument at the place due to poor service, but that there was no prejudice in his speeches.

In January 2024, the Public Prosecutor’s Office filed a complaint against Angelo for homophobic offenses and threats, having dismissed the accusation of racial slur.

Three supermarket employees were interviewed. Two confirmed the conflict and one of them specified the prejudiced phrase that had been said by Angelo.
