Bolsonaro ‘seemed to cry’ when denying fraud ‘to enter the US’, says NYT – 5/3/2023 – Nelson de Sá

The Federal Police operation to investigate fraud by former President Jair Bolsonaro and his advisors has wide repercussions in American vehicles, both liberal and conservative.

In the main newspaper, The New York Times, “Police in Brazil invade Bolsonaro’s house in case of false vaccination cards” (image below). Also in the call, the forgery would be “possibly to help Bolsonaro to enter the United States”.

The newspaper recorded the statements made by the former president on television, that he was not asked to show the card when he traveled to the USA. “Therefore, there was no fraud on my part,” he allegedly declared. According to the NYT, “at times he appeared to cry during the interview”.

In the Washington Post, also with a home call, “Bolsonaro’s vaccination status was falsified before he entered the US, says Brazilian police”. The investigation aims to confirm whether “Bolsonaro tried to deceive the American authorities”.

In the Wall Street Journal, also with a headline, “Brazilian police search Bolsonaro’s house in a vaccine investigation”, detailing that he “faces accusations that he lied to travel to the US”. On the Fox News website, from the same group as the WSJ, he “denies wrongdoing”.

Other conservative outlets such as The Washington Times, as well as tabloids such as the New York Daily News, highlighted the former president’s “fraud” investigation.

Around the world, the news echoed on the front pages of the Financial Times, from London, to the Guancha portal, from Shanghai, this one with the call “Bomba! ‘Tropical Trump’ was searched” (below).
