Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) made a nod this Tuesday (24) to the candidacy of deputy Ricardo Salles (PL-SP) for mayor of São Paulo.

“I have hope that he will be successful there in São Paulo. I speak from the heart. But it is being negotiated,” said Bolsonaro when speaking at an event with ruralists.

The PL signals support for the candidacy in 2024 of the current mayor of the capital of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB). Bolsonaro and his allies, however, demand that Nunes make more gestures to right-wing groups.

Bolsonaro told parliamentarians that he will only speak out “for the party” when authorized by the president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto.

Salles declared that he returned to the mayoral race in early October, four months after announcing that he had given up being a candidate.

Bolsonaro participated this Tuesday in the launch of the Invasion Zero Parliamentary Front.

The creation of this group is a new attempt by deputies and senators linked to agribusiness to confront the MST (Landless Rural Workers Movement). This is because the CPI promoted by Bolsonarists against the entity ended without an approved report.

The new parliamentary front will be headed by deputy Coronel Zucco (Republicanos-RS), who also chaired the MST parliamentary commission of inquiry.

In his speech to ruralists, Bolsonaro thanked the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), for questioning the actions of the STF (Supreme Federal Court).

“The issue of the imbalance between Powers, I heard that, if accepted, the proposal will go forward in the Senate. Congratulations to the president of the Senate, who continues with this objective”, said Bolsonaro. “We have to seek equality (among the Powers), each one has to understand their place”, the former president also stated.

The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), canceled his trip to the event with the ruralist group in Brasília.

At the same event, deputy Pedro Lupion (PP-PR), president of the FPA (Agricultural Parliamentary Front), said that the ruralist bench will work to overturn vetoes made by President Lula (PT) to the time frame.

“We are mobilized. The vetoes are excessive, they distorted the law approved by the National Congress”, said Lupion.
