Bolsonaro releases video with alleged Yanomami to allies – 03/28/2024 – Panel

Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) asked allies to release a video in which a man shows the miserable situation of a supposed group of Yanomami and criticizes the Lula (PT) government.

“Yanomas condemned. I ask for it to be passed on,” the former president wrote to allies on a WhatsApp broadcast list this Thursday (28).

In the video, the man shows a supposed group of Yanomami housed on the banks of a river in Roraima and says that there is a lack of care by the PT administration towards them. The man also claims that the indigenous people are abandoned.

The Yanomami are experiencing a humanitarian crisis due to the invasion of miners into their territory. In January 2023, the Ministry of Health declared a state of emergency to combat the lack of health care affecting indigenous people — Lula himself even traveled to Boa Vista to visit a community.

Such as Sheet showed in February, the Health department recorded 363 deaths of indigenous Yanomami in 2023, the first year of the PT government and the first year with emergency public health actions in the traditional territory.

The number of reported deaths is higher than the official number for 2022, when 343 deaths were reported, but health professionals do not compare the two years due to the high underreporting of cases in the last year of the Bolsonaro government.

The Yanomami humanitarian crisis has served as ammunition for attacks by Bolsonarists on the Lula government on social media.
