Bolsonaro presents himself as an alternative and ignores fraud – 06/05/2023 – Politics

Former President Jair Bolsonaro sold himself this Saturday (6) as an “alternative” to Brazil and ignored a scandal that days before led to his home being searched and seized by the Federal Police.

In an act of PL Mulher in São Paulo and alongside Michelle Bolsonaro, he began by saying that “today the word will be with women” and engaged in a five-minute speech. Nothing out of your electoral script in 2022.

He praised the usual values ​​in his oratory, from “defense of the family” to “patriotism”, and rescued a phrase that was frequent in many of his speeches during the election campaign: “Only death puts an end to our lives. Until it arrives, we will always be available to be an alternative for our Brazil”.

Bolsonaro credited the pandemic and “the war outside”, referring to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, for “four difficult years” in the Presidency.

For his mandate, he carved a pink reality like the clothes of several guests. He spoke of “enviable economic numbers” and, ignoring the denialism that made him advise against health measures and delaying the purchase of vaccines against Covid-19, said that he attacked “the issue of the virus”.

Not a word about the accusation of fraud on his vaccine card, that of his daughter and that of assistants, the target of a PF operation this week.

The event served to induct Congresswoman Rosana Valle into the São Paulo directory of the PL Mulher, in a ceremony at the state Legislative Assembly. Michelle commands the national tab.

The Bolsonaro couple shared the table with other members of the party, such as its president, Valdemar Costa Neto, and Senator Astronauta Marcos Pontes.

Governor Tarcisio de Freitas (Republicanos-SP), former minister and Bolsonaro ally, was absent.

A party outsider was Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB), who covets support from Bolsonaristas in the next municipal election. For the time being, ideological moods lean towards deputy Ricardo Salles (PL-SP), an alternative publicly defended by colleague Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP). The former environment minister arrived later and joined the authorities on the platform.

The crowd was mostly female, with some dressed in pink and waving pink and lilac balloons. Those stayed in the back, watching the speeches on a big screen and joining the chorus of “myths” when Bolsonaro was mentioned.
