Michelle Bolsonaro defends the end of the quota for women in politics – 06/05/2023 – Politics

Former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro took advantage of an event by PL Mulher, which she directs, to defend the end of the 30% quota for women, which encourages the participation of a historically neglected gender in the political scene.

“We want to eradicate the 30% quota, we want women in politics for their potential”, said Michelle, applauded by a mostly female audience at the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo, this Saturday (6).

By law, parties must allocate funds from the electoral fund in proportion to the candidates (never less than 30%) and the black candidates they launch.

Next to her husband, former president Jair Bolsonaro, the president of PL Mulher said she was “very happy on her first work trip” in the party position. “We chose São Paulo, the land of my love, which has always received us in such a special way.”

After attacking the quota for female candidates, she said that her mission is to fight for “more women to come to party life” and said: “The PL is a party that takes care of women”.

He also said that “women will not enter politics for power, women enter politics for a cause”. And he listed flags that the acronym should defend, from the “defense of life from conception” to freedom of religion and expression.

The event served to induct Congresswoman Rosana Valle into the São Paulo directory of the PL Mulher, in a ceremony at the state Legislative Assembly. Michelle commands the national tab.

The Bolsonaro couple shared the table with other members of the party, such as its president, Valdemar Costa Neto, and Senator Astronauta Marcos Pontes.

A party outsider was Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB), who covets support from Bolsonaristas in the next municipal election. For the time being, ideological moods lean towards deputy Ricardo Salles (PL-SP), an alternative publicly defended by colleague Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP). The former environment minister arrived later and joined the authorities on the platform.

The crowd was mostly female, with some dressed in pink and waving pink and lilac balloons.

Those stayed in the back, watching the speeches on a big screen and joining the chorus of “myths” when Bolsonaro was mentioned.

Michelle was introduced as a mother, wife and advocate for inclusion.
