Bolsonaro in SP: ‘I’m going to sleep with Tarcísio today’ – 07/25/2023 – Politics

Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) is expected to meet with the mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), during a trip to the capital of São Paulo this week in the midst of negotiations on the municipal election next year.

The expectation of the meeting was confirmed to the Sheet by Bolsonaro himself. The meetings should take place between Tuesday (25) and Wednesday (26), accompanied by the president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto.

The PL discusses supporting Nunes’ candidacy for re-election, to oppose deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL), who will dispute the mayoral command and should have the support of President Lula (PT).

Bolsonaro has a series of agendas in São Paulo with politicians and businessmen and also with Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans).

“I’m going to betray Valdemar today, I’m going to sleep with Tarcísio”, joked Bolsonaro in a brief conversation with Sheetduring lunch at the home of Fábio Wajngarten, his communication advisor.

As the President of the PL said in an interview with SheetBolsonaro will spend the night at the Palácio dos Bandeirantes, after having a public spat with the governor of São Paulo over disagreements over the Tax Reform, approved in the Chamber of Deputies at the beginning of the month.

According to Valdemar, the relationship between the two is good despite the fact that they have publicly disagreed about the proposal. Tarcísio defended the approval of the reform, while Bolsonaro preached that the PL deputies should vote against the text.

Excerpts from the meeting in the former president’s party in which the governor was harassed by Bolsonarist parliamentarians were released on social networks. Bolsonaro even took Tarcísio out of speech, while defending the reform, to say that it would not pass, if the entire PL voted together.

For the president of the PL, however, the case was a “miscommunication” by Bolsonaro. “Bolsonaro is not against [a Reforma Tributária]. [É] against the way they did it,” said Valdemar.

The expectation is that Tarcísio will talk to the former president about the proposal, since the PL can support the reform in the Senate, if changes are made. This position, for example, is the same as that of Senator Rogério Marinho (PL-RN), Bolsonaro’s former minister and leader of the opposition in the house.

On another front, Bolsonaro will have a conversation with Nunes, in the midst of negotiations for the PL to support him in the dispute for re-election in São Paulo.

When contacted, Nunes says that there is still no appointment with the former president.

The president of the PL says that it will be up to Bolsonaro to define whether or not he will support the current mayor.

As Valdemar himself told the Sheet, Bolsonaro has sympathy for Nunes. Despite this, part of its allied base in the state defends the candidacy of a name that represents more of the right.

Federal deputy Ricardo Salles (PL-SP) initially received positive signals from Bolsonaro to run for the position of municipal executive, but the parliamentarian did not have the support of the party.

Then, the thesis of a more moderate name on the right to run for mayor against deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL-SP), seen as the main threat by Bolsonarists in the capital, gained strength.

Asked if he would undergo tests in São Paulo, Bolsonaro denied: “I’m feeling sick because of the feijoada I ate”, joked the former president.
