Bolsonaro has no reason to forge a card, says defense – 05/03/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

The defense of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) issued, on the night of this Wednesday (3), a statement in which it reiterates that the former president “never received any immunization against Covid-19” nor would he have any reason to ask that a proof of vaccination be forged in his name.

According to the lawyers, Bolsonaro “only entered foreign countries that accepted such a condition or were satisfied with carrying out a viral test”. The justification is opposed to the suspicion of the PF (Federal Police) that the former president would have falsified the document so that he could enter the United States, where he traveled in December of last year.

This Wednesday morning (3), the residence of Bolsonaro and former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro was searched and seized. The PF also served an arrest warrant against some of the former advisers closest to the former head of the Executive.

At least Bolsonaro, his youngest daughter, Laura, Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, former assistant to the Presidency, and two family members would have had their immunization data forged.

According to the former representative’s defense, his youngest daughter would not have been vaccinated against the coronavirus “due to pre-existing comorbidities”, which would be attested by doctors.

“The former first lady, Mrs. Michelle, as widely publicized, was vaccinated, with a single dose immunization, in the year 2021. The couple’s youngest daughter, in turn, was prohibited from receiving any immunization due to preexisting comorbidities , situation always and duly attested by doctors”, says the defense.

“Contrary to what was widely reported today, there would be no reason for the former president to promote or determine the production of false certificates”, he concludes.

According to the PF, Bolsonaro was aware of the fraudulent insertion of data into the Ministry of Health system. “Jair Bolsonaro, Mauro Cid and, possibly, Marcelo Câmara were fully aware of the fraudulent insertion of vaccination data, remaining inert in relation to such facts until the present moment”, said the agency.

The police cite as evidence of Bolsonaro’s knowledge the fact that the ex-president’s vaccination certificate was issued on December 22 and 27 at the Planalto Palace.

In a decision that authorized the search and seizure this Wednesday (3), the Minister of the STF (Supreme Federal Court) Alexandre de Moraes said that it is not credible that Mauro Cid articulated the scheme in absentia and Bolsonaro’s consent.

He also cited as an argument “the notorious public position of Jair Messias Bolsonaro against vaccination, the object of the CPI on the Pandemic and of investigations in this Supreme Court”.

“The investigative line on the possibility of the former President of the Republic, in a veiled way and through the insertion of false data in the SUS systems, is plausible, logical and robust, to seek for himself and for third parties any advantages arising from effective immunization, especially considered the fact of not having been re-elected in the 2022 General Elections”, said the magistrate.
